The HPISD–A&P Team Helps Local Districts in Need

08/25/2010
Richardson, TX—A&P has teamed up with the Highland Park Independent School District (HPISD) to deliver much-needed equipment to two rural school districts in North Texas.

A&P is close to finishing up an extensive program of renovations and additions to six HPISD schools and has also constructed a new multi-purpose facility as part of the district’s 2008 school bond program. While working at the HPISD schools A&P became aware that, as a result of the renovations, HPISD had many desks, lockers and textbooks that were no longer needed. A&P assisted HPISD in locating a school district that could make use of the items and coordinated shipping them to Savoy ISD, a rural school district in Fannin County located approximately 90 minutes north of Dallas.

A few months later, when A&P finished the new addition to replace four portable classrooms at University Park Elementary School, A&P once again worked with HPISD to find a home for the portable buildings that were no longer necessary. A&P learned that Bonham ISD, another Fannin County school district, desperately needed portable classrooms because its school bond program had been turned down. Bonham ISD subsequently purchased the portables from HPISD for a fraction of the cost of new units. A&P arranged the transport of the portable classrooms to the Bonham district and repaired the landscaping where the portable buildings had been removed from the elementary school campus.

“A&P wants to be good stewards of our communities and help wherever we can,” says Will Hodges, Senior VP of A&P’s Gulf States region. “We are pleased to be able to work with clients like HPISD that share this core value, and glad that our partnership with them provided much-needed equipment for these school districts. As a side benefit, the efforts of A&P and HPISD kept many usable items out of landfill sites, which is a natural extension of our job site recycling program.”
