300 Trees Planted in South Dallas to Celebrate International Women's Day

Local construction companies lead group of 50 people to plant 300 native trees in Dallas’ Crawford Park

To help the biodiversity in a South Dallas park and celebrate International Women’s Day, Adolfson & Peterson Construction (AP), a national, family-owned construction management and contracting company, teamed up with Tierra Energy Solutions, Woodwright Flooring Co. and the City of Dallas, hosting an event where 300 native trees were planted.

The Friday, March 8 event in observation of International Women’s Day, drew 50 people to Dallas’ Crawford Park to plant trees as part of a concerted effort to enhance the local ecosystem. Jaime Resendez, Dallas City Council member District 5 and several representatives from the City of Dallas Park and Recreation team were in attendance and helped plant the new trees. AP purchased a portion of the 300 oak trees planted.

“AP likes to give back to the communities where we live and build, and this time, we had the opportunity to enhance our own environment. We enjoyed the opportunity to partner with the City of Dallas and these other great companies as the local construction community to offset the environmental impact of the industry,” said Maureen Durbin, Director of Project Operations for AP Gulf States.

“Aimed at regenerating biodiversity lost directly from commercial construction activities in the Dallas area, we wanted to create an event where we could all come together and plant native trees that will contribute to carbon sequestration, improve air quality and provide habitat for local wildlife.”

Aligned with the theme of International Women’s Day, which was first observed in 1910 to celebrate women’s achievements and foster gender equality, this tree-planting event underscores the vital role women play in environmental stewardship. From community leaders to grassroots activists, women have long been at the forefront of initiatives to preserve our local biodiversity for future generations.
