AP Breaks Ground on Zach Elementary Additions Project

Fort Collins, CO. (May 2, 2019) – As snow flurries fell on Northern Colorado, students from kindergarten to fifth grade filed into the gymnasium for the groundbreaking of the Zach Elementary Additions project. PSD Superintendent Dr. Sandra Smyser cut the ribbon, before a student representative from each grade ceremoniously shoveled dirt within the gym. Parents and community members also attended, as well as members from architect RB+B.

The Zach Elementary School project includes additions on two sides of the existing school, adding multiple classrooms. Renovations to the existing school will address mechanical alterations, fire alarm replacement and building controls. A kindergarten classroom will be reworked to include private bathrooms and additional space for students.

“We already have contractors on site, and we are eager to move forward,” said PSD Project Manager Brian Schlicting. “All the subcontractors, the masons, the electricians—everyone’s on board and excited to give the students something that they can enjoy.”

The project is set to be complete by January 2020, in time for the spring semester.
