AP Honored with Bismarck Historic Preservation Award for Downtown Office Renovation

Honoring the Past, Building for the Future

AP has been awarded the 2025 Bismarck Historic Preservation Award in the Project category for the renovation of its regional office within the historic Prince Building in downtown Bismarck.

Built in 1916, the Prince Building stands as a landmark of early 20th-century architecture in the heart of the city. AP’s interior renovation of the space was guided by a commitment to preserving the building’s legacy while making it functional for today’s work environment.

“Our goal was to create a space that respects the history of the building while supporting the way we work today,” said Ryan Christenson, Project Executive at AP. “By preserving original materials and following nationally recognized preservation standards, we were able to highlight the building’s integrity while adapting it for modern use.”

Throughout the renovation, AP retained and celebrated key architectural elements such as the original exposed brick, concrete ceilings, and structural beams. These features remain visible throughout the office, showcasing the building’s distinct character and craftsmanship.

The project adhered to the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties, emphasizing repair over replacement and ensuring updates blended seamlessly with existing features. This preservation-first approach reflects AP’s broader commitment to sustainable development, community investment, and honoring the history of the places where it builds.

AP’s work within the Prince Building demonstrates how heritage spaces can be thoughtfully reimagined to meet today’s needs while preserving their cultural identity. The project also reinforces AP’s dedication to supporting downtown revitalization and adaptive reuse.
