The building, part of the Reid Park Zoo, is a LEED Platinum Certified facility, and the deconstruction and rebuilding incorporate maximum use of recycled materials. The construction included pervious concrete, bamboo carpentry, alternative fuel stations, photovoltaic (solar power), and operable windows. This school is used as a living laboratory exemplifying healthy building concepts and energy conservation.
