Northwest Fire District – Station #38

Location: Marana, Arizona

Client: Northwest Fire District
Architect: Deutsch Associates

Northwest Fire District's Station #38 was a design–build project that required close collaboration of all project team members and the surrounding community. The facility is a 14,000 square foot, nine–person, three–bay station located on 1.6 acres in very close proximity to an existing housing development. The station incorporated sustainable building standards to reduce energy consumption and preserve water. Green building products were also used throughout construction. Using the design–build delivery method, special attention was given to areas for design and construction including the building elevations, apparatus bays, concrete floors, and materials used for roofing. Due to unique site conditions (small site, plant preservation and natural wash) the building was designed and constructed at two stories.

The "medium" response station was built with an emphasis on being a neighborhood station. The fire station will include a community room for community outreach programs. Even during construction, the neighborhood was involved with the project. A&P's project team kept the neighbors informed of all construction progress and led public tours throughout the construction of the project.
