Cottonwood Recreation Center
Community involvement and a collaborative approach were critical to the success of this high-profile project for the City of Cottonwood. At the beginning of the project, when A&P faced perceptions as the large out-of-town contractor, the project team demonstrated its commitment to the local community by renting housing and supporting local businesses, participating in fundraising and publicity, hiring local subcontractors, holding project updates for the public, and sponsoring beam signing and grand opening ceremonies. At the end of the project, A&P donated the unused contingency back to the parks and recreation department to support programs for children. Offering a full range of recreational and community amenities, the center features energy- and water-saving measures such as skylights, automatic lighting controls and extra insulation. Site work included an 845,000 square foot parking lot to accommodate 250 vehicles.
