YMCA Gig Harbor

Gig Harbor, Washington
Total Project Cost:
$15 million
77,150 SF
A&P Role:

When the start of this project was delayed because of permit issues and one of the rainiest seasons on record, it looked as though the facility would not be ready for the grand opening ceremony already scheduled. However, before the heavy winter rains arrived, the team prepared for the weather by completing all the underground utility work and concrete masonry units, and by armoring the site with fabric and rock to protect it from the heavy rains. As a result, the facility was finished by the client’s deadline and the opening ceremony was held as scheduled. The 77,150 square foot full-service recreational facility offers a racquetball court, climbing wall, gymnasium with four types of sport court flooring, indoor running track, lap pool, children’s pool, adult swimming pool and spa.

“It is easy to tote words such as integrity, honesty, sincerity, etc. when in the sales phase of construction.  What I have experienced is the same level of forthrightness in communication when there are challenges to be communicated and resolved during the construction phase.  It is not a perfect world…but it is better when most issues are anticipated…or when you work together to resolve matters such as the biggest rain since 1933!  I have trust in their word and their work.”— Bob Ecklund, President & CEO, YMCA of Tacoma-Pierce County
