Minneapolis, MN – April 16, 2009 – Adolfson & Peterson Construction (A&P) is pleased to accept the Governor’s Safety Award for excellence in workplace safety and health.

A&P is one of 240 employers (out of 522 entrants) who will be recognized at the Governor’s Safety Awards luncheon May 15 at the Minneapolis Convention Center.

“An effective safety program reduces injuries and costs, maximizes productivity and builds morale,” says Carol Bufton, president of the Minnesota Safety Council. “Employers like Adolfson & Peterson Construction” understand that safety is good business, now more than ever.”

Since 1934, the annual Governor’s Safety Awards have spotlighted Minnesota employers with above average safety records. Participants submit injury information which is compared with state and national data, as well as the entrant’s past performance. Ongoing safety programs and activities are also considered.

A&P received the Meritorious Achievement Award for its low incident rates as the company nears three million hours with no long time accidents.

A&P’s regional safety director Terry Hukriede attributes achieving and maintaining excellence in workplace safety and health to the hard work and diligence of the work site team, saying “It takes years of training, coaching and mentoring to get to this level. The best part of reaching this milestone [three million hours] is that our employees are going home safely to their families every day.”

The Governor’s Safety Awards luncheon is part of the 75th Minnesota Safety & Health Conference, coordinated by the Minnesota Safety Council. The conference is the oldest and largest gathering of workplace safety and health professionals in the region. The Minnesota Safety Council, founded in 1928, is a non-governmental, not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life in Minnesota by preventing unintentional injuries (“accidents”).
