Durango, Colorado
Total Project Cost:
$14.5 million
31,300 SF
A&P Role:

During this project the middle section of the biology building was demolished and rebuilt while the north and south portions were renovated, remaining operational during construction. The project included excavating a basement below the existing occupied building, adding a new mechanical system and greenhouse, and adding three stories of classrooms, labs and offices. New lab areas included agriculture, botany, genetics, herbarium, microbiology, physiology, zoology and anatomy. Once the new areas were ready, the team also coordinated with university personnel, architect and engineers on the complicated move-in process involving equipment, live animals and ongoing experiments.
