Overview

The Recreational Tennis Center is like no other facility in the United States. The unique project, built on a tight site, included eight new tennis courts with four interior courts underground with a viewing lounge and assistant pro office. The interior building offers two main levels with courts. The first level includes a foyer, center viewing deck, and east and west viewing galleries with two restrooms. The second level has east and west viewing galleries and an entrance to the bridge connecting the new fitness center to the tennis facility.

More about the project

High-end interior finishes were completed throughout all levels. The interior building has a special sports liner fabric ceiling above the courts and indirect LED lighting to give the courts ideal lighting for playing tennis. These exceptional aspects enhance the tennis players’ experience and play on an indoor court.

The cast-in-place concrete structure is approximately 44 feet from the underground slab on carton form to the cast-in-place roof slab. The tennis court post-tension slabs were poured with a new special concrete additive called Better Mud, an additive that helps the concrete cure by forcing all the moisture out of the concrete to eliminate surface cracking.

This is the first phase of a two-phased project AP is completing for this client. The second phase includes a new cast-in-place, 3-story, 56,352-sf fitness center with high-end finishes, whirlpools, a sauna, movement rooms, massage and treatment rooms, indoor and outdoor patio/bars, a full kitchen and dining room, and workout/weight rooms. The project will also include an 85-space, 29,650-sf, below-grade parking garage with four clay tennis courts on the roof. In addition, a 200-foot long pedestrian bridge will be constructed across Mockingbird Lane (a major East/West thoroughfare in Dallas), connecting the new fitness center to the new tennis facility.
