Station 20 Opens for South Metro Fire Rescue Authority

Highlands Ranch, Colo. (March 12, 2021) – Adolfson & Peterson Construction (AP), OZ Architecture and the many subcontractors who collaborated with South Metro Fire Rescue Authority are proud to celebrate the accomplishment of the Station 20 project.

Designed to house six  firefighters, one fire engine, one brush engine to fight wildland fires, and one medic unit vehicle, Station 20 is a 10,084 -square-foot new community fire station located on the corner of Wildcat Reserve Parkway and Summit View Parkway. Staff and crew celebrated the station’s dedication on March 12th.

South Metro Fire Rescue Authority’s 30th fire station, Station 20 will reduce response times, projecting the station to respond to 600 and 1,000 calls in the first year. The 1.4-acre site is in close proximity to the Backcountry Wilderness Area — 8,200 acres of open space bordering the southern edge of Highlands Ranch — which typically experiences brush fires in the hot summer months. Only 640 feet from the closest neighbor, and in close proximity to water infrastructure, community coordination was an important part of AP’s project planning.

The new station has six bedrooms, 3 apparatus bays, a dayroom, fitness area, 2 laundry rooms, kitchen, 2 offices and a mezzanine  to store wildland gear. Five storage rooms are designed to store bunker gear, EMS supplies, station supplies, tools and outdoor yard tools.

“Our team members enjoy building community projects,” says Tom Horsting, AP’s Executive Vice President. “Building facilities that keep communities safer, right in our hometown, gives us all something to be proud of.”

Working through the pandemic, construction crews implemented numerous new safety protocols and was able to maintain the schedule to open the station on time. This new station is the fifth project AP has collaborated with South Metro Fire Rescue Authority on and the 29th with OZ Architecture.

The station will serve the Highlands Ranch area including BackCountry, Mountain Vista High School, Red Tail Park, Southridge, Summit View Elementary School and Heritage Elementary School.
