Overview

Adolfson & Peterson Construction, in partnership with DLR Group, delivered a design-build expansion of the Rockwall County Jail, significantly increasing capacity and enhancing operational efficiency, safety, and inmate care.

The 82,943-square-foot expansion added 204 new beds, increasing the facility’s total capacity to 444 beds. The project includes two-story cell housing units with both direct and indirect supervision, as well as a direct supervision dormitory.

More about the project

New functional areas include intake and visitation spaces, a full-service kitchen and laundry, and dedicated medical and mental health facilities, including a 16-bed medical unit and a 20-bed mental health unit. The medical area supports services such as dental care and diagnostics, while the mental health facilities provide a modern environment focused on inmate well-being.

Additional enhancements include a new, state-of-the-art control center with advanced security and monitoring systems, as well as interior renovations featuring negative pressure rooms to safely isolate infectious inmates. The new on-site kitchen improves efficiency and nutrition by allowing meals to be prepared within the facility.
