Overview

The expansion of Rio Vista Behavioral Health Hospital in El Paso enhanced the campus to support growing demand for mental health and substance abuse treatment services for children, adolescents, and adults throughout the region. Phase One included construction of a new two story inpatient facility designed to accommodate 40 patients, a 14,000 square foot ground up outpatient treatment center, and a 38,000 square foot outdoor recreation area that supports therapeutic and wellness-focused activities. The project also included a 5,000 square foot renovation of the existing outpatient facility, adding 12 inpatient beds and expanding the hospital’s treatment capacity.

More about the project

Following the successful completion of Phase One, the project team was awarded Phase Two, which included the full interior buildout of the second floor of the existing hospital while the first floor remained operational. This phase added 20 additional inpatient beds, increasing the total capacity of the facility to 72 beds. Careful coordination with hospital staff was required throughout construction to minimize disruption to daily operations and ensure the safety and comfort of patients and caregivers.

The project involved multiple components including new construction, renovation, and a standalone outpatient building, all of which required careful sequencing to maintain the project schedule. The team also navigated industry wide supply chain challenges by proactively coordinating procurement and working closely with the design team and vendors to maintain the project’s design intent and performance standards. The completed expansion strengthens the hospital’s ability to provide comprehensive behavioral health services and reinforces its role as a critical healthcare resource for the region.
