The new Broomfield Community Center involved a complex phased renovation and new build. In the first phase, the senior center wing of the City’s existing community center was converted to a stand-alone facility and the rest of the facility was demolished, allowing senior programs to remain in operation while providing space for a new build.
A new large addition replaced the old community center and senior center. The completed 96,088-sf facility’s has two basketball/volleyball courts in the wood floored gymnasium with an elevated running track above and include locker rooms and family cabanas, weight room, a child watch area, pre-school and an outdoor play area. The two new natatoriums allow for upgraded programming from the former facility’s one pool and a hot tub replacing them with a warm pool, a competition cold pool including balcony viewing bleachers, a hot tub and a therapy pool. The building includes three fitness studios, classrooms and administrative spaces, a wood workshop for carpentry classes, art and kiln space, classrooms, a large classroom commercial kitchen for cooking classes and rental rooms / conference rooms for weddings and meetings. The community’s well-known areas and services were preserved within the senior center, such as their Meals-on-Wheels support.
