Overview

The REC of Grapevine project in Grapevine combined a new 60,000 square foot addition with the complete renovation and modernization of the existing Community Activities Center, creating a best in class 116,000 square foot recreation facility. Designed as a multi generational destination for the community, the expanded center features a wide range of amenities including a senior activities area, indoor aquatics complex, multipurpose rooms, basketball and racquetball courts, an expanded fitness center, dining hall, and a central utility plant that supports the building’s mechanical systems and pool operations.

More about the project

The new addition includes a large indoor aquatic facility with water slides that extend through the building’s exterior, along with upgraded recreation and gathering spaces throughout the complex. The project required extensive selective demolition and renovation within the existing structure, including upgrades to existing gyms and racquetball courts while protecting finished spaces and maintaining interior environmental conditions. Construction was carefully coordinated due to the site’s proximity to an active library and convention center, requiring detailed traffic control planning, construction isolation, and coordinated delivery schedules. Despite challenging weather conditions during construction, the project team successfully delivered a modern recreation facility featuring high end interior finishes and distinctive exterior site elements such as ornamental fencing, stone benches, canopies, and decorative hardscape features that enhance the campus environment.
