Overview

AP Construction recently completed the new headquarters for WatchGuard Video in Allen, Texas. The 140,000 square foot, two-story office building, designed by GFF, was developed to support the company’s continued growth and can accommodate approximately 500 employees.

The fully built-out facility integrates advanced technical, manufacturing, and collaborative spaces under one roof. A state-of-the-art engineering laboratory includes a large anechoic chamber, a full environmental test chamber for accelerated life testing, 24 electrical test benches, and a fully equipped prototype shop. On the first floor, a sophisticated manufacturing area supports the assembly of WatchGuard Video’s in-car and body-worn cameras, bringing engineering, production, and testing together in a highly integrated environment. The headquarters also features a large training facility, a vehicle installation garage with an officer’s lounge, a customer demonstration room, and a dedicated engineering wing.

More about the project

Designed with employee experience and flexibility in mind, the building offers a range of amenities including a cafeteria with a catering kitchen that can convert into a large assembly space for company-wide meetings, outdoor green space, a large recreation room, a fitness center with locker rooms, and an indoor regulation-size racquetball court. The facility also includes an on-site medical clinic for employees.

The interior office environment was designed to foster collaboration and productivity. Open work areas with departmental workstations support teams across engineering, sales, technical services, customer support, marketing, accounting, and manufacturing. These spaces are complemented by private offices, break rooms, and a variety of conference and huddle rooms. Lighting and acoustics were carefully considered throughout the building to enhance employee comfort, including fully dimmable LED lighting in open office areas and indirect cove lighting in common spaces. Individual offices feature full glass window walls with partial privacy film to allow natural light to flow throughout the workspace while maintaining appropriate levels of privacy.

Interior finishes combine performance with visual impact. Materials include solid surface countertops, porcelain tile flooring, and static-dissipative vinyl tile in the manufacturing areas. A dramatic curved grand staircase, fully wrapped in wood paneling and finished with black granite treads and risers, creates a striking focal point at the main entrance and is complemented by a glass and stainless-steel handrail.
