Overview

The Haltom Middle School was part of the 2018 bond program for Birdville Independent School District in Fort Worth. Each ground up 178,000 square foot middle school includes modern classrooms, science labs, food service areas, fine arts spaces, and both indoor and outdoor athletic facilities. The campuses also feature administrative offices, enhanced roofing systems, and tornado shelters designed to provide safe learning environments for students and staff.

More about the project

Following completion of the new schools, the original campuses were demolished to make way for additional site improvements including a natural grass football field and running track. The project also emphasized sustainability by salvaging and incorporating elements from the original schools into the new front entrances, preserving pieces of the schools’ history while reducing material waste. Careful phasing and coordination were required to construct additional parking areas and complete new utilities within a constrained site surrounded by residential neighborhoods, parks, and commercial properties, ensuring the work was completed efficiently while the new schools were already in operation.
