Overview

The Music Practice Jazz Lab renovation at University of North Texas enhances rehearsal and performance space within the university’s Music Building in Denton. The project was designed to support the university’s nine Lab Bands, including the internationally recognized One O’Clock Lab Band, as well as four vocal jazz ensembles and additional student performance groups.

More about the project

The scope of work included interior renovations, acoustic performance upgrades, new instructional technology, and integrated recording and webcasting capabilities. Additional improvements included updated furnishings, modifications to HVAC and MEP systems, and enhancements to meet accessibility standards. The space was carefully designed to create an acoustically optimized rehearsal environment, featuring a custom sound dampening wall assembly constructed from precision fabricated wooden dowels, adjustable acoustic elements, and specialized materials that minimize external noise while enhancing resonance and sound clarity for performers and listeners alike.
